A family-friendly movie screening hosted by the Russian Embassy in Pretoria

On July 17, 2025, the Embassy of Russia in South Africa held its traditional Russian Movie Night at the Atterbury Theatre. This time, the event was organized in a family-friendly format, with special attention given to young guests – more than 60 children attended. They were treated to special snacks and memorable souvenirs.

On July 17, 2025, the Embassy of Russia in South Africa held its traditional Russian Movie Night at the Atterbury Theatre.

This time, the event was organized in a family-friendly format, with special attention given to young guests – more than 60 children attended. They were treated to special snacks and memorable souvenirs.

The first part of the evening featured the animated film “Ruslan and Ludmila: More Than a Fairy Tale” for the children, followed by the comedy “Son of a Rich" for adult viewers. The event attracted over 200 attendees.

Ambassador of Russia to South Africa Roman Ambarov, delivered welcoming remarks. He reminded of the recent celebration of Day of Family, Love, and Fidelity in Russia, and emphasised the importance of preserving traditional family values.

The guest of honour was Nomvula Mokonyane, Deputy Secretary General of the African National Congress (ANC), who attended the screening with her family.

After the screenings, the guests enjoyed traditional Russian cuisine, accompanied by Russian folk music playing throughout the theatre halls. The evening unfolded in a warm and friendly atmosphere, serving as yet another example of the growing cultural dialogue between Russia and South Africa.
